Waynesburg women earn third-straight PAC Cross Country title

Waynesburg University captured its third-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Cross Country title Saturday morning.

The conference’s 35th annual, six-kilometer championship race was hosted by Waynesburg and held at the Greene County Airport. It marked Waynesburg’s first time hosting the PAC Championships since October 30, 2010.

Waynesburg’s five scoring runners finished in the top 14 of the eight-team, 114-runner field.

Grove City College, a 27-time PAC champion, was the runner-up with 47 points. Geneva College finished third with 72 points.

Saint Vincent College was fourth (104) and was followed by Chatham University in fifth (124), Westminster College in sixth (152), Washington & Jefferson College in seventh (172) and Bethany College in eighth (260).

Chatham first-year Rebecca Pennington (Petrolia, Pa. | Karns City) earned the event’s individual title and PAC Runner of the Year honors after posting a winning time of 23 minutes, 33.53 seconds (6:18/mile). She is Chatham’s first runner of the year since joining the league in 2007.

Grove City senior Rachel Martin (Mars, Pa. | Eden Christian) was the individual runner-up (23:52.46, 6:24/mile). Martin finished third a year ago.

Waynesburg freshman Aubrey Wingeart (King George, Va. | King George) finished third (24:40.93, 6:31/mile).

The top seven finishers in both the men’s and women’s races will receive All-PAC First Team recognition, while runners finishing eighth through 14th will earn All-PAC Second Team honors. Runners finishing 15th through 21st will receive All-PAC Honorable Mention recognition.

Waynesburg ninth-year head coach Chris Hardie was voted the league’s Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the last five years (2014, 2016-17).

DeSales University will host this year’s Division III Mideast Region Championships Saturday, November 10 in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. The women’s race is scheduled for 11 a.m. (EST) with the men’s race to follow at 12 p.m. (EST).

The Division III Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 17 and will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The women’s race will begin at 10 a.m. (EST) with the men’s race to follow at 11 a.m. (EST).
