W&J claims first-ever PAC Men’s Cross Country title

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Washington & Jefferson College secured its first-ever Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Cross Country team title Saturday afternoon.

The conference’s 61st annual, eight-kilometer championship race was hosted by Waynesburg University and held at the Greene County Airport. It marked Waynesburg’s first time hosting the PAC Championships since October 30, 2010.

W&J totaled 33 points after placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 12 of the nine-team, 95-runner field.

Seven-time PAC champion Saint Vincent College was the runner-up with 49 points. Last year’s PAC champion, Grove City College, finished third with 102 points.

Geneva College was fourth (104) and was followed by host Waynesburg in fifth (111), Chatham University in sixth (130), Bethany College in seventh (219), Westminster College in eighth (220) and Thiel College in ninth (269).

W&J senior Harley Moyer (Akron, Ohio | Firestone) earned the event’s individual title and PAC Runner of the Year honors for the second-straight year after posting a winning time of 26 minutes, 07.85 seconds (5:15/mile).

Geneva senior Josh Duffie (Canton, Ohio | Glenoak) was the individual runner-up (26:47.99, 5:23/mile) while Grove City senior Ryan Budnik (Grove City, Pa. | Grove City) finished third (26:57.85, 5:25/mile).

W&J first-year head coach Derek Workman was voted the league’s Coach of the Year.

The top seven finishers in both the men’s and women’s races will receive All-PAC First Team recognition, while runners finishing eighth through 14th will earn All-PAC Second Team honors. Runners finishing 15th through 21st will receive All-PAC Honorable Mention recognition.

DeSales University will host this year’s Division III Mideast Region Championships Saturday, November 10 in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. The women’s race is scheduled for 11 a.m. (EST) with the men’s race to follow at 12 p.m. (EST).

The Division III Championships are scheduled for Saturday, November 17 and will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wisconsin. The women’s race will begin at 10 a.m. (EST) with the men’s race to follow at 11 a.m. (EST).
