GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Thomas More College women’s golf squad fired a 350 in the fourth and final round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Saturday afternoon to claim this year’s league title.

The two-round, 36-hole Spring Championships were hosted Friday and Saturday by Cedarbook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania.

The PAC title is Thomas More’s first.

Thomas More posted a four-round, 72-hole score of 1417, besting runner-up Saint Vincent College (1447) by 30 strokes on the final team leaderboard.

Westminster College finished third (1450) and was followed by last year’s PAC champion, Washington & Jefferson College, in fourth (1459). Grove City College finished fifth (1631) and Waynesburg University (2535) was sixth.

Westminster junior Kelsey Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Allegheny) earned the PAC’s Most Valuable Performer award after posting a four-round score of 335 (88-85-81-81).

W&J junior Kaitlyn Vogel (Pleasant Gap, Pa. | Bellefonte Area) was the event’s runner-up after carding a four-round score of 342 (86-86-82-88).

Thomas More second-year head coach Rachel Brown was voted the league’s Coach of the Year.

The 2016-17 PAC Championships featured a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes contested at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships.

The All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, are determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships. Prior to the 2015 season, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams are made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention).

By winning this year’s PAC title, Thomas More earned the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships. This year’s Division III Championships are scheduled for Tuesday-Friday, May 9-12 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the Harris Country-Houston Sports Authority are serving as hosts.
