Geneva men earn first-ever PAC outdoor track & field championship

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Geneva College men’s outdoor track and field program earned its first-ever Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) team title Saturday afternoon at its Merriman Athletic Complex.

Geneva totaled 145.50 points during the 19-event championship.

Thomas More College, winner of the PAC's indoor championships in February, was the runner-up with 116 points.

Bethany College finished third (110) and was followed by Grove City College in fourth (97), defending PAC champion Westminster College in fifth (87.50), Washington & Jefferson College in sixth (61), Saint Vincent College in seventh (48), Waynesburg University in eighth (42), Thiel College in ninth (29) and Chatham University in 10th (4).

Thomas More sophomore Logan Winkler (Independence, Ky. | Simon Kenton) was voted the meet’s Most Valuable Performer, becoming the school's first-ever PAC Championships MVP. He was also the event’s Field MVP.

Winkler won the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 0.25 inches (6.71m) and finished as the runner-up in the triple jump (44-11, 13.69m) and high jump (6-01.50, 1.87m). He also ran on the Saints’ fifth-place 4x100 relay (43.71).

Grove City senior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md. | Frederick) won the 10,000 Friday in a Grove City-record time of 31 minutes, 42.95 seconds. Saturday, he won the 5,000 Saturday (15:20.48) and finished fourth in the 1,500 (4:10.18).

Geneva third-year head coach Phil Thompson was voted the league’s Coach of the Year.
