(pacathletics.org) – Thomas More College scored Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) titles in two singles flights and a pair of doubles flights to earn the league’s men’s tennis championship Saturday afternoon at the Pennbriar Athletic Club. The Saints finished with 45 points in the nine-team flighted championship tournament. They won PAC titles at third and fourth singles and first and second doubles. Grove City College entered this year’s championship as the winner of 26-straight league titles. The Wolverines finished as the runner-up with 44 points. They won titles at fifth and six singles and third doubles. Thomas More trailed Grove City 37-35 after Friday's quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. Saint Vincent College was third with 34 points and was followed by Washington & Jefferson College in fourth (31), Bethany College in fifth (17), Geneva College in sixth (16), Waynesburg University in seventh (11), Westminster College in eighth (5) and Thiel College in ninth (4). Saint Vincent sophomore Jonathan Prichard (Harborcreek, Pa. | Cathedral Prep.) earned his second-straight PAC Player of the Year award after capturing the individual title at first singles. Prichard, the flight’s top seed, posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over W&J senior Micah Byrum (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Obama Academy), the flight’s third seed, in Saturday's title match. Thomas More third-year head coach Chris Eilerman was voted the league's Coach of the Year, while Saint Vincent, led by acting coach Jim Bendel, was voted the PAC's Team Sportsmanship Award winners. By claiming the conference championship, Thomas More has earned the PAC's automatic qualifying bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The Division III Championship field and first round tournament locations will be announced at 12 p.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 8 at ncaa.com.
