(pacathletics.org) – The Thomas More College men’s golf squad shot a 313 in the fourth and final round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Saturday afternoon to claim this year’s league title. The two-round, 36-hole Spring Championships were hosted Friday and Saturday by Cedarbook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. The PAC title is Thomas More’s second. The Saints last won the team title in 2010, defeating Washington & Jefferson College by 16 strokes at Oak Tree Country Club in West Middlesex, Pennsylvania. Thomas More posted a four-round, 72-hole score of 1225, edging runner-up W&J (1232) by seven strokes on the final team leaderboard. Saint Vincent College finished third (1233) and was followed by defending PAC champion Grove City College in fourth (1238). Westminster College was fifth (1294), Thiel College was sixth (1324), Waynesburg University was seventh (1596) and Bethany College was eighth (1655). Grove City sophomore Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa. | Downingtown Stem Academy) earned the PAC’s Most Valuable Performer award after posting a four-round score of 291 (71-73-71-76). Saint Vincent senior Ben Biss (Latrobe, Pa. | Greater Latrobe) was the event’s runner-up after carding a four-round score of 296 (75-70-77-74). Thomas More first-year head coach Tyler Hochstetler was voted the league’s Coach of the Year. The 2016-17 PAC Championships featured a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes contested at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, are determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships. Prior to the 2015 season, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams are made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention). By winning this year’s PAC title, Thomas More earned the league’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. This year’s Division III Championships are scheduled for Tuesday-Friday, May 16-19 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Oglethorpe University and the Central Florida Sports Commission are serving as hosts.
