PAC announces all-conference women’s soccer teams, annual award winners

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its 2017 All-PAC women's soccer teams and yearly award winners Thursday.

Ballots for the all-conference teams and annual award winners were voted on by league’s 10 head coaches.

PAC Player of the Year honors went to Grove City College senior midfielder Lindsay Hutton (Hackettstown, N.J. | Hackettstown), while PAC Coach of the Year honors went to Grove City 25th-year head coach Melissa Lamie.

Hutton is the seventh player from Grove City to be voted the PAC’s Player of the Year, and first since Hannah Yang in 2010.

The league’s coach of the year award is Lamie's 10th.

A four-time All-PAC selection and two-time first team pick, Hutton’s 10 goals and 20 points this season lead the team and rank third and sixth, respectively, among her PAC counterparts. Her six game-winning goals lead the PAC and rank 13th in NCAA Division III. Hutton has started a Grove City record 87 matches since the 2014 season, her first with the program, and has totaled 27 career goals.

A versatile midfielder throughout her time at Grove City, Hutton and the Wolverines have allowed a combined 16 goals this season, including just five during the league’s regular season.   

Lamie led Grove City to a 15-5 overall record and 8-1 conference mark in 2017. The number two seed in this year’s PAC Championship Tournament, Grove City fell to top-seeded Thomas More College 2-0 in the league’s title match last Friday afternoon at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. It was the sixth-straight meeting between Thomas More and Grove City in the conference final.

On Monday, Grove City received an invitation to this year's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship. The 15-team championship tournament features four pods, with the winners of each pod advancing to the semifinal round on Saturday, November 18. The Wolverines will take on Franciscan University (10-9) this Saturday at 11 a.m. The four-team pod is being hosted by Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. It will be the 12th all-time postseason appearance for Grove City, which has now reached the postseason in eight of the last nine seasons.

Westminster College (10-8) also earned a spot in the ECAC Division III Championship and will play host Frostburg State Saturday at 2 p.m. The Grove City-Franciscan winner will face the Westminster-Frostburg State winner Sunday at 12 p.m.

Thomas More (15-4-1) earned the PAC’s automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship with its win over Grove City last Friday and will face Wittenberg University (8-6-3) Saturday night in the opening round of the Division III Championship. The first round match will be hosted by sixth-ranked and defending Division III champion Washington University in St. Louis and played at Francis Field. The match is scheduled to get underway at 9 p.m. (EST).
