ERIE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – Grove City College netted titles in two of three doubles flights and four of six singles flights and compiled 56 total points to claim the this year’s team title at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon.

The league’s two-day flighted championship tournament returned to the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie for the 16th consecutive year.

It is Grove City's third conference title in the last four years. Overall, Grove City has won 29 PAC titles in women's tennis. With the league championship, Grove City claimed the PAC’s automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championships. Preliminary rounds are scheduled to be played in May 2018.

Thomas More College was the runner-up with 37 points, followed by last year’s PAC champion, Westminster College, in third with 35 points. Geneva College finished fourth (31) and was followed by Washington & Jefferson College in fifth (17) and Saint Vincent College in sixth (11). Bethany College (9) and Thiel College (9) finished tied for seventh with Waynesburg University finishing ninth (2).

Thomas More sophomore Brooke Warden (Edgewood, Ky. | Dixie Heights), the top seed at number one singles, claimed PAC Player of the Year honors for the second-straight year after posting a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 victory over junior second seed Maggie Manchester (Williamsport, Pa. | Williamsport) of Grove City in the flight’s championship match. It was the second-straight year Warden and Manchester squared off in the championship final at number one singles.

Warden is the first women’s player to win back-to-back PAC titles at number one singles since Grove City’s Tamara Nations (2007-08).

Warden and first-year Hannah Lowman (Vine Grove, Ky. | North Hardin), seeded third in the first doubles flight, earned an 8-2 victory in the championship final over Westminster senior Gabby Eaborn (Coraopolis, Pa. | West Allegheny) and first-year Julia Serbati (Oil City, Pa. | Oil City), the flight’s top seed, to claim the title.

Grove City head coach Jeff Buxton, in his sixth year with the program, was voted the league’s Coach of the Year. It is Buxton’s second award (2014).
