(pacathletics.org) – The Grove City College men’s golf squad rallied from a two-stroke, 54-hole deficit to outshoot Saint Vincent College by four strokes during Saturday’s fourth and final round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship to claim this year’s league title. The two-round, 36-hole Spring Championships were hosted by the Grove City Country Club Friday and Saturday. Grove City posted a four-round, 72-hole score of 1212, edging Saint Vincent by two (1214) on the final team leaderboard. Thiel College finished third (1246) while Thomas More College was fourth (1248). Defending league champion Washington & Jefferson College was fifth (1260), Westminster College was sixth (1298) and Waynesburg University was seventh (1454). The 2015-16 PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes contested at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships. The combined 72-hole team determines the 2015-16 PAC team champions and winners of the league's men's and women's automatic qualifying bids to the Division III Championships. Grove City earned the league’s automatic qualifying bid and the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships. The Wolverines last won the team title in 2000, defeating W&J by 14 strokes in a 36-hole event at Oglebay's Spiedel Golf Club in Wheeling, West Virginia. The All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, are determined by the combined 72-hole scores from both the Fall and Spring Championships. Prior to the 2015 season, All-PAC and Player of the Year honors were determined exclusively at the 36-hole Spring Championships. The All-PAC teams are made up of the top 15 overall scorers (5 first team, 5 second team, 5 honorable mention). Saint Vincent senior Jake Reed (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) was named the PAC’s Most Valuable Performer after posting a four-round score of 290 (73-70-73-74), while Grove City eighth-year head coach Melissa Lamie was voted the league’s Coach of the Year. Grove City also earned the PAC Team Sportsmanship Award. Grove City sophomore Jorden Alfery (Cheswick, Pa. / Fox Chapel) was the event’s runner-up after posting a four-round score of 299, while Saint Vincent junior Ben Biss (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) finished in third (302).
