Grove City women win eighth-straight PAC Swimming & Diving title

GROVE CITY, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Grove City College women earned its eighth-straight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming & Diving title at Grove City College’s James E. Longnecker Competition Pool Saturday evening.

Grove City, winners of a PAC-best 14 league championships, led the six-team league field with 793 points. Saint Vincent College and Westminster College finished tied for second (663), Washington & Jefferson College fourth (415.50), Chatham University fifth (359) and Bethany College sixth (125).

The conference championships are being held in conjunction with Grove City’s 26th annual James E. Longnecker Swimming and Diving Invitational and the 10th annual Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships. Longnecker Pool has been the home of the league's swimming and diving championships since 1990.

PAC Most Valuable Performer honors went to Grove City senior Megan Bilko (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Also the PAC's Most Valuable Performer award winner in 2014, she won her third conference title in the 1650 free (B-cut, 17:30.91) and swam on the Wolverines’ runner-up 400 free relay (3:34.61) Saturday. Other members of the relay included junior Molly Gallant (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), junior Abby Jank (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and junior Megan Smith (Tyler, Texas/Kolbe Academy). Friday, Bilko swam on Grove City’s winning 800 free relay (7:49.77) and won her second conference title in the 400 IM title (B-cut, 4:28.53). Thursday, she swam to her third conference title in the 500 free (5:01.33).

PAC Diver of the Year honors went to Chatham senior Alexis Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills). She won the 11-dive, three-meter event Saturday (492.40) after claiming the PAC title in the 11-dive, one-meter event (484.35) Thursday, setting new PAC open, PAC Championship, Longnecker Pool and Longnecker Invitational records in the event. She also won the one-meter title in 2014. Rectenwald qualified for the NCAA Division III Regional Diving Championships in both events. 

PAC Swimming Coach of the Year honors went to Grove City eighth-year head coach Dave Fritz for the sixth time since the 2010 season.

Chatham’s Charlie Hauser, now in his third season with the Cougars, claimed the PAC Diving Coach of the Year award.

Chatham was voted the PAC Team Sportsmanship award winner.

Grove City’s Smith swam to the PAC title in the 200 breast (2:25.41).

Saint Vincent freshman Cassie Trudel (North Smithfield, R.I./North Smithfield) won the league title in the 200 back (2:11.51) and the Bearcats posted their first-ever first-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:34.61). Members of the winning relay were freshman Hannah Barkey (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional), sophomore Kelly Kramer (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), junior Marissa Frollo (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and freshman Ciara Lewis (Buena Vista, Pa./Elizabeth Forward).

Westminster sophomore Megan Douds (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) registered her second-straight PAC title in the 200 fly (2:07.71), while Chatham first-year Aurelia Sheehan (Pittsburgh,Pa./North Hills) won the league title in the 100 free (52.72).
