2015-16 PAC Championships results

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – Thiel College finished with five individual champions to capture the 2015-16 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Wrestling Championship Friday evening at the Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

The Tomcats, winners of back-to-back league championships for the first time since claiming 10-straight titles from 2000-09, finished with 120 team points at the three-team event. Waynesburg University was the runner-up with 106 points and Washington & Jefferson College finished third with 75 points.

Thiel freshman 157-pound Brett Beltz (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) was voted the league's Most Outstanding Wrestler, while Thiel 13th-year head coach Craig Thurber was honored with his eighth PAC Coach of the Year award. The Tomcats were also voted the PAC Sportsmanship Award winners.

Beltz won by fall (0:56) over W&J sophomore Sam Florentino (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) in the first round before winning by fall (2:23) over Waynesburg sophomore Derek Hull (Canonsburg, Pa./Chartiers-Houston) in the third round.

W&J senior Jacob Spearman (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) earned his fourth-straight PAC title, winning his third championship at 125 pounds. He wrestled to a 10-4 decision over Waynesburg sophomore Tristan Buxton (Washington, Pa./Trinity) in the first round before receiving an injury default victory in the third round.

Thiel senior Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) won the conference championship at 149 pounds, his second-straight PAC title (won at 141 in 2015), after earning an 11-5 decision against Waynesburg freshman Nick Kusich (Avella, Pa./Avella) in the first round and a 7-6 decision over W&J senior Trevor Meyers (Saint Thomas, Pa./James Buchanon) in the third round.

Thiel senior Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) won the PAC title at 197 pounds, his second-straight league championship (won at 184 in 2015), after posting a 5-1 decision over Waynesburg freshman Josh Sneeringer (New Oxford, Pa./Delone Catholic) in the opening round before winning by fall (4:20) over W&J senior Ezekiel Stroupe (Rochester, Pa./Freedom) in the third round.

Waynesburg junior Filippo Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) wrestled to the individual title at 141 pounds, defeating Thiel junior Robert Ritschard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) in the first round and winning by decision (8-3) over W&J junior Daniel Pommerer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown) in the third round. He won the 133-pound title in 2014.

All three programs will represent the PAC at the 2016 NCAA® Division III Mideast Regional Championships, scheduled for Saturday-Sunday, February 27-28. The regional championships are being hosted by Lycoming College and will be contested at Lamade Gymnasium in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
