GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) -- The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its 2016 All-PAC football teams and yearly award winners Tuesday. The All-PAC teams and annual award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s 11 head football coaches.

PAC Offensive Most Valuable Player honors went to Carnegie Mellon University junior running back Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass. / Hingham) for the second-straight season. Benger currently ranks second among NCAA Division III counterparts in rushing touchdowns (23) and total points scored (150), third in rushing yards (1,581) and fourth in rushing yards per game (158.1).

Benger, Carnegie Mellon’s career rushing leader, ranks fifth on the league’s all-time rushing yards list (4,243), sixth in carries (704) and seventh in rushing touchdowns (46) in 31 career games.

PAC Defensive Most Valuable Player honors went to Bethany College senior linebacker Donavan Hayden (Hyattsville, Md. / Northwestern). Hayden currently ranks second in Division III with 142 total tackles (82 solo, 60 assist) after posting 10 or more stops in eight games this season. His 82 solo stops rank third in Division III while his 20 tackles for loss are tied for 10th.

Hayden recently became Bethany’s career tackles leader with 360, which rank third on the league’s all-time list.

PAC Newcomer of the Year honors went to Saint Vincent College senior quarterback Derek Stewart (Carson, Calif. / Long Beach Cabrillo). Stewart finished the season 220-of-356 passing with a 61.8 completion percentage. His 29 touchdowns are tied for seventh among PAC single-season leaders (14th in Division III) while his 2,973 yards rank eighth (17th in Division III). He had five games throwing for over 300 yards and at least four touchdowns this season, which included a 442-yard, seven-touchdown effort against Grove City College on September 24. His seven touchdown passes tied the league’s single-game record.

PAC Coach of the Year honors went to Thomas More College second-year head coach Regis Scafe for the second-straight season. Fifteenth-ranked Thomas More secured its eighth PAC title this season and earned the conference’s automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship with an unblemished 8-0 league mark. The Saints will be making their eighth appearance in the Division III Championship when they host 17th-ranked Wittenberg University Saturday at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

The PAC Team Sportsmanship Award was claimed by Grove City College for the second-straight season. The PAC’s Team Sportsmanship Award program was started during the 2008-09 sports season and is an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among conference teams.
