Men’s Fall Championship Results

WARREN, Ohio (pacathletics.org) – Thomas More College erased a five-stroke opening-round deficit with Tuesday’s low round of 302 and will carry eight-stroke lead over second-place Washington & Jefferson College into the spring portion of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Golf Championship.

The PAC Fall Championships were hosted at Avalon Golf and Country Club. The men’s teams played Monday’s and Tuesday’s rounds at Avalon Lakes.

The Saints fired an opening-round 301 prior to Tuesday’s 302 and their combined 36-hole effort of 603 is eight strokes better than W&J’s 611 (296-315) heading into the spring event. Thomas More finished fourth at last year’s PAC Championship.

Saint Vincent College is currently in third with a 614 (302-312), followed by last year’s conference champions, Grove City College, in fourth (313-308-621). Westminster College is fifth (308-340-648), Thiel College is sixth (329-340-669), Waynesburg University is seventh (434-416-850) and Bethany College is eighth (430-470-900).

The PAC Championships feature a 72-hole stroke play event, with 36 holes played at the Fall Championships and another 36 holes played at the Spring Championships in April. The combined 72-hole team total determines the PAC team champions and winners of the league's automatic qualifying bids to the 2017 NCAA Division III Championships. The All-PAC teams, as well the PAC Players of the Year, are determined by the combined 72-hole scores from the Fall and Spring Championships.

Grove City sophomore Cole McCook (Chester Springs, Pa./ Downingtown STEM Academy) claimed medalist honors at the fall championship after a two-round score of 144. He followed up Monday’s one-under 71 with a two-over 73 Tuesday.

Saint Vincent senior Ben Biss (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) is currently in second with a 145. He followed up Monday’s 75 with a second-round best 70 Tuesday. Thomas More senior Jimmy Kelley (California, Ky. / Bishop Brossart) and first-year Kyle Alexander (Taylorsville, Ky. / Spencer County) are tied for third after posting respective two-round scores of 147.

This year’s PAC Spring Championships will be played at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania on Friday-Saturday, April 28-29.
