2015 All-PAC Football Teams

GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org) – The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) released its 2015 All-PAC football teams and yearly award winners Tuesday.

The league's 11 head football coaches selected the All-Conference teams and award winners.

2015 PAC Offensive Player of the Year honors went to Carnegie Mellon University sophomore running back Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass./Hingham). Benger has rushed for a NCAA Division III-best 1,897 yards this season to go along with 18 rushing touchdowns. He also ranks third among Division III counterparts with 2,034 all-purpose yards. He holds the number five spot on the PAC’s single-season rushing chart and needs 103 yards in Sunday’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Legacy Bowl Championship matchup with Bridgewater State University to join the league’s three members of the 2,000-yard club (R.J. Bowers: 2,283 yards in 1998, 2,098 yards in 1999; Robert Heller: 2,176 yards in 2007, Dominique Hayden: 2,017 yards in 2013). A 2014 Honorable Mention selection as a return specialist, Benger is the first Carnegie Mellon player to earn PAC Offensive Player of the Year honors since running back Scott Barnyak in 1989.

2015 PAC Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Thomas More College senior defensive lineman Erick Butler (Eminence, Ky./Henry County). Butler has totaled 49 tackles (34 solo, 15 assist), 11.0 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks for the conference champion Saints this season. A four-time All-PAC honoree and three-time First Team selection, he has helped the defensive unit limit its opposition to averages of 15.4 points and 300.1 total yards per game, respectively. Butler is the fifth Thomas More defensive player to earn PAC Player of the Year honors since the Saints joined the league in 2005.

2015 PAC Newcomer of the Year honors went to Saint Vincent College sophomore quarterback Tyler Donahue (West Newton, Pa./Yough). Donahue finished the regular season seventh in the PAC in rushing yards (834) and eighth in total offense (1,657). He completed 59-of-127 passes for 823 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for an additional five scores.

2015 PAC Coach of the Year honors went to first-year Thomas More head coach Regis Scafe. Scafe led the ninth-ranked Saints to their first undefeated regular season since 2010 while securing the league’s automatic qualifying bid to this year’s Division III Championship with a perfect 8-0 mark in the PAC. Thomas More, making its seventh all-time appearance in the Division III Championship, will host No. 16 Washington and Lee University Saturday at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Grove City College was voted the 2015 PAC Team Sportsmanship Award winner.
