LATROBE, Pa. – The second-seeded Washington & Jefferson College men’s lacrosse program overcame a 6-5 halftime deficit to top seed Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon in the 2012 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament final to post a 10-8 victory in the conference’s first-ever men’s lacrosse championship.

W&J (6-10) used a pair of third period goals and three more in the fourth to secure the conference title. The Presidents limited the Bearcats (6-9) to just a pair of second half goals.

The Bearcats entered Saturday’s championship as winners of its first seven matchups with the Presidents, including an 11-8 victory just two weeks ago.

W&J senior attacker Joseph Eck scored three of his game-high four goals in the game’s final 30 minutes.

Saint Vincent ran up a 4-2 lead after the first period, but W&J trimmed Saint Vincent’s lead to just one, 6-5, going into the break after goals over the final 1:42 by sophomore attacker Tim Angell and Eck. Eck's score, his first of the opening half, came with only three seconds remaining in the period.

Senior midfielder Tom Kozlowski set Eck up for the game-tying score just nine seconds into the third period.

Tied at 7-7 entering the game’s final 15 minutes, W&J senior midfielder John Zustra netted the go-ahead goal at the 10:16 mark before Eck’s goal with 9:32 remaining pushed the Presidents lead to 9-7.

Saint Vincent sophomore attacker Bryce Pasquariello’s even-strength goal with just over six minutes to play pulled the Bearcats back to within one, 9-8, but W&J sophomore midfielder Will Wagner’s man up goal with 4:20 to play proved to be the all the Presidents would need in securing the win.

W&J senior goalkeeper Ran Kirby totaled 16 saves in the cage during the victory. Eck, W&J’s all-time leading scorer, totaled five points on four goals and an assist. Angell added three goals in the win.

Saint Vincent senior keeper Adam Gunter finished with seven saves in the loss. Freshman midfielder Corbin Cole registered a pair of goals off of the Bearcat bench.

The Bearcats finished with a 25-18 advantage in ground balls but finished 0-for-2 in extra man opportunities.

The Presidents were 1-for-1 in extra man opportunities and finished 13-for-16 in clear attempts.
